As more than 3,000 students walk the Quad during the first week of the fall semester, many students participated in the Student Involvement Fair that took place in the Quad Wednesday, Aug. 29and Thursday, Aug. 30 from 11-1:30 p.m.

The fair is a two-day signature event, which occurs every semester as a way to give students the opportunity to get more involved on campus through meeting organizations, enjoying food and winning prizes.

Amanda Smith, a sophomore social science major, said she was happy the event was two days long because she would not have been able to attend otherwise.

“I go to school Tuesdays and Thursdays, so if it was only on Wednesday’s I would have missed the entire event,” said Smith.

With a growing campus, the number of participants has skyrocketed, with a total of 51 student-run organizations, clubs and university departments registered, according to Student Activities Advisor Brian Van Gundy.

Van Gundyen courages participants to download and install the OrgSync app from the Google Play store or Apple’s App Store. He also encourages students to inquire about availability.

“Students can search for your organization right from their phone and join before even leaving your table,” said Van Gundy.  “Maybe bring a computer or tablet to have available at your table and have students log in and join right when they meet you.”

Among the clubs and organizations on campus, Koug Radio, Cougar Pride Club were present to gain members to their team and bring awareness what they represent. Smith was impressed with the amount of diversity from the tables and said she even considered joining a few clubs.

“I look forward to this every semester,” said Smith. “I love the involvement fair and seeing the different clubs.”

Whether students are interested in being part of a club, an organization or university department, there is a little bit of something for everyone.

For those who missed the Student Involvement Fair, the next opportunity will be during the Week of Welcome, next spring. For upcoming events, visit Brian Van Gundy in his office in Firstenburg Student Commons, Room 125 or contact him at 360-546-9499,brian.vangundy@wsu.edu.
