The Silenced

Through the fire and chaos, I see you engulfed in the flames.

Wearing the weight of the world on your shoulders.

I hate to see crying

Natives to these lands

No one can see, nor hear your cries.

Fists slammed against glass, nowhere to hide.

We all look in on the latest reality-tv show

Denying it exists

Every night while you sleep, loved ones slip away

They become names on a growing list

Memories of people whose history is erased

But we hold their scarves in our hands,

Remanence of their scent lingers

There’s no time for you to cry

But my heart bleeds for you daily.

I place the weight of your world on my shoulders.

I’ll carry it until you are strong enough

As the twinge of hunger sets in

The pain pierces through women with nursing children

I stand paralyzed,

Engulfed in volcanic ash

Everywhere I look is on fire.

Flattened by humanity’s own hands

Nowhere is safe,

Bombs drop on aide

Water is not safe

Bodies piling in the streets as fresh rain washes over them

People from all walks of life, stand united

Lean on us

We will take on your ache.

Lean on us

Our voice will be heard.
