Fool’s gold

We couldn’t have been more different than the sun to the moon.
I jumped while you thought things through.
The day the words were uttered,
somewhere inside I knew you’d have me forever.
I’ve woken to an unstirred presence.
One from a place where there is no heaven.
I couldn’t comprehend what it was—
that feeling of unrequited love that felt like gold, but quickly turned to sand.
No one would ever love you the way I loved you.
There was no way around this, we couldn’t survive it.
The day the world went black was the day I woke up.
I imagined the perfect picture, but my heart caught a fever.
The chaos between the trees of a lovers spat that left him on his knees.
I clung to my chest like a child weeping.
