RIVERSIDE COUNTY-
Cal Fire law investigators arrested a man on suspicion of setting several wild fires in Riverside and San Bernardino counties.
Suspected arsonist, Steven Taylor Rutherford, 47, was booked into Riverside County jail on nine counts of arson.
According to Chief Dale Hutchinson of the Cal Fire Southern Region, arson not only threatens the safety of the public, it also threatens the safety of the environment.
“This is the third arson arrest for Cal Fire this week, and let it send a message to anyone considering committing this heinous act,” Hutchinson said in a news release.
The investigation was a success through a collaborative effort from several different agencies, according to Rod Bywater, acting unit chief of Cal Fire’s San Bernardino Unit.
“This arrest is a result of teamwork and cooperation with many local fire and law enforcement agencies,” said Bywater.
Anyone with information about arson is urged to contact the Cal Fire Arson Hotline at 1-800-468-4408. Callers can remain anonymous.
