The clock is ticking as time slowly comes to an end. On Nov. 6 millions of people will decide the fate of President Barack Obama and Gov. Mitt Romney.

Romney and Obama couldn’t be more different from one another, especially when it comes to equal rights for same-sex couples. According to BarackObama.com, President Obama is for equality among the LGBT community. Sept. 20, 2011, the president repealed the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy put in place by former President Bill Clinton, which allowed homosexuals to join the military as long as they weren’t open about their sexuality.

Jeremy Johnson, a former petty officer for the United States Navy spoke on his stance for the policy. Johnson said that those who fall under the category of the ‘Don’t ask don’t tell” law are placed in a field of landmines.

“Living under don’t ask don’t tell is something that you can’t put into words,” said Johnson. “You give up so much of yourself in order to pursue a job that you love.”

In an interview with a FOX news reporter, Romney stated that he firmly believes in traditional marriages, but also knows people whose views differ from his own.

“I made it perfectly clear from the beginning of my political career that a marriage should be a relationship between a man and a woman,” said Romney.

During the interview, Romney was asked about his stance on civil unions and whether it should be a state issue or national,he responded that each state should be given the right to deal with same-sex marriages however they choose in regards to giving couples the right to hospital visitation and so forth.

“My preference would be to have a national standard to define marriage as a relationship between a man and a woman,” said Romney. ” That would then allow states to determine what rights would be provided for people of the same gender who wanted to have a relationship.”

According to Romney, if elected as president, he would not only appoint an attorney general who would defend the Defense of Marriage Act – a bipartisan law passed by Congress and signed by President Clinton – but he would also add a Federal Marriage Amendment to the Constitution defining marriage as between one man and one woman.

“I want my daughters to have the same opportunities as your sons.”

President Obama, the first sitting president to support marriage equality, supports equal rights for all Americans which includes the DREAM act and women’s rights, all of which Romney isn’t in support of according to MittRomney.com.

With the election coming up Americans will either be stuck with a president who wants  to move forward, or a president who wants to move backwards.
